Inspired by the beauty of the Japanese Autumn, the poem 秋 (Aki) Looms by Akilah Bel, captures the way she, as a foreigner, views this season. She purposely chose to combine the Japanese name of the season within the poem, as it highlights both a sense of familiarity, yet slight disconnect one might feel with the season. Further enhancing the beauty of the autumnal season, artist Kelly Pieterse lends her beautifully drawn watercolour interpretation of the piece, which brings the vibrancy and rich colours of autumn leaves to the fore. A breathtaking site to behold.
